Cleaning Like A Belle

A tidy appearance, as we’ve discussed previously, is important but equally so is a tidy home. Not only should your appearance be ready at a moment’s notice your home should too. You never want a friend, family member, or guest to pop by unexpected and catch you in a mess. A big goal of yours should be not having to excuse your home when people drop by. Kids, animals, and husbands make this a heck of a challenge, I know. Staying on top of a schedule and choosing ladylike behaviors over lazy ones make a world of difference.

I call it the “maintainable house.” I feel best when my home is neat and orderly. Getting to that point is a task honestly, but staying that way is a bigger one. Before the physical act of cleaning takes place decluttering is the top priority. Everything has a home and it should be in it. Should you find that your items aren’t quite fitting in their “home” then it’s time to clean it out. I regularly declutter. I pick two rooms each week and make sure I fit in decluttering those places that week a priority. My closet had gotten out of wack over a couple of weeks so it was imperative I clean it out. I shouldn’t have let it get that bad but shame on me. Life happens, I get it, but that’s why it’s so important to stay on it and notice when things are going haywire.

Once your home is at it’s maintainable state, it is your responsibility to keep it that way. I do two tidies a day, in the morning and the evening. I scrub clean my bathrooms once a week, but twice throughout the week I wipe them down. Everyday at 4pm I pick up and straighten the house. I try to do my mopping while my household is occupied at school, nap time, etc. Everyone’s schedule is different so you have to do what’s best for you. I wipe my living space furniture down twice a week, but I dust everyday. The daily dusting makes the deeper cleaning days easier.

AND FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE WIPE YOUR BASEBOARDS!

Clean baseboards change the feel of the entire room. They’re not hard to keep clean if you make it part of your routine. Cleaning can feel overwhelming or never ending, but a schedule will literally change your life. Once upon a time, I felt like all I ever did was clean but I started implementing a schedule and sticking to it now I clean maybe 1-2 hours a day. I’ll have you know, I no longer apologize for or ask anyone to excuse my home.

I have attached a few of my favorite organizational items that I highly recommend you purchase because they’ve really changed the way my home looks and operates.
